FAQs
How do I install OptinPop?
- Unzip the file containing the plugin
- Inside the zip folder is a folder called “optinpop”. Upload this to your WordPress plugins folder.

- Then go to “OptinPop Settings” and enter the details of your Popup window.

The contents of your Popup window should be created as a separate page and hosted on your web server. It’s the url of this separate page that you enter and OptinPop will display within the Popup window.
Does OptinPop work on WordPress.com?
No, I’m sorry OptinPop only works on WordPress that you have installed on your own web server (website).
Can the Popup windows that OptinPop creates be blocked by Popup window blockers?
No, the popup windows OptinPop and OptinPop Advanced create cannot be blocked
How do I uninstall OptinPop?
Just go to your plugins folder on your web server where you have WordPress installed then delete the folder called “optinpop”.
Can I give OptinPop away to others?
Only the free version can be given away. When you join our affiliate program you can give the free OptinPop plugin away and also $23.50+ per person you refer who upgrades to OptinPop Advanced.

Authors website | April 2nd, 2009where is the pop up page url?
Authors website | April 3rd, 2009Hi Annie, thanks for your question… the popup page url is the url to the page you’d like to display within your popup window. It’s not something we give you, it’s the link to a web page of your own that you have on your website.
With OptinPop 2.1 you can display any web page you choose, which could of course be a page asking for people to join your list. Or how about your affiliate url to a website you’re promoting?
I hope this helps.
Authors website | April 3rd, 2009Hi Annie, provided you’re using a WordPress blog hosted on your own website you can use our OptinPop plugin. I’ve checked your website and it looks like it will work. All I can suggest is you follow the installation instructions we give you and just try it out. You can’t break anything by trying
Authors website | April 3rd, 2009hi, I configured with an affliate site but doesn’t appear to be working!! Help please
Authors website | April 4th, 2009Hello
Authors website | April 17th, 2009I’ve installed your plugin on my website. I want the popup to appear when someone leave my site.
The popup doesn’t appear. Is there something to check ?
Thanks
Hello, here’s a trouble shooting checklist to go through if you experience any problems with OptinPop…
1. Make sure you’re using version 2.0.2 or higher of the WordPress script. If you’re using an older version of WordPress be sure to upgrade it to the newest version.
Optin Pop is compatible with 2.02 up to 2.7.1 (the newest version of WordPress)
2. Make sure you have the url to a website entered into the field for “URL of the page to show” if you don’t enter a URL in this box OptinPop will not work.
If no popup windows are showing on your blog go onto this next test…
3. Test OptinPop so that the popup windows appear every time on entry.
These are the settings fort this…
[Show on Load] Show to a visitor [always]
Then go to your blog, your popup window should then load every time you visit your blog.
This is to make sure it’s working.
If no popup windows are showing on your blog go onto this next test…
4. Can you check to make sure all the plugin files are in the correct locations on your web server?
Here are the relative paths to the folder that contains the files that power your popup window…
This is the folder you need to make sure you have installed along with all the files it contains…
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox
Then you’ll need to have these files installed within the “greybox” folder…
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/about.html
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/AJS_fx.js
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/AJS.js
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/g_close.gif
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/gb_scripts.js
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/gb_styles.css
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/header_bg.gif
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/indicator.gif
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/LGPL.txt
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/loader_frame.html
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/next.gif
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/prev.gif
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/readme.txt
/wp-content/plugins/optinpop/greybox/w_close.gif
If you don’t have these files installed it can cause your popup windows not to work.
If no popup windows are showing on your blog go onto this next test…
5. Turn off other plugins so that the only active plugin is OptinPop.
If your popup windows begin working then it means that OptinPop conflicts with another plugin you have installed.
The next thing to do is to turn on each plugin one at a time then go and test your blog to see if your popup window appears.
Do this for each plugin you activate until you find the plugin that causes a conflict with OptinPop and prevents your popup windows from working.
When you do this make sure you have OptinPop set up to the parameters of test #2. This way you’ll have the popup window appearing each time you visit your blog.
6. Finally, if none of these work remove OptinPop from your web server by deactivating it from within the plugin area within WordPress admin. Then delete it from your web server.
Once you have all the OptinPop files removed download fresh zip file containing OptinPop from this page here…
http://www.bigsellingoptins.com/blog/download-optinpop-wordpress-plug-in/
Then re-install OptinPop from the new zip file and configure OptinPop with a url and set it to show popup windows every time on load.
If none of these solutions work please let me know so that we can dig deeper into the cause and find a solution for you.
I hope this helps!

do you have a html version for affiliate landing pages??
Authors website | July 2nd, 2009Hello Jeff, thanks for your message.
At this time OptinPop only works with WordPress blogs.
If you’d like to create unblockable popup windows for HTML pages I highly recommend you use this script…
http://popinbuilder.icoder.com/
You can use it to create entry or exit popup ups. The main difference is it doesn’t display web pages. Instead you have to copy and paste your HTML directly into the window and this is what will show. (You’ll know what I mean when you visit the site).
By the way… it was created by the programmer Michel Komarov who I worked with on OptinPop and OptinPop Advanced.
I hope this helps.
Authors website | July 2nd, 2009Hi,
I can’t get the plugin to work either. Set all paramaters…. nothing pops up…
I do have a question can you get it to go on one page only.
Please help
Authors website | September 7th, 2009Hello Suzanne, thanks for your message.
Have you watched this video that shows you how to configure the popup windows?

If you upgrade to OptinPop Advanced you can choose which types of pages you have your popup window appearing on…

I hope this helps.
Authors website | September 7th, 2009Thanks SO much for this tool!
I’ve installed and activated the pop-up. When I go to my site, the pop up box shows up multiple times until I close them out.
I’m using WP version 2.8.4 and noticed above that it’s compatible up to version 2.7.1
Could that be causing it?
Thanks for your help
Authors website | October 4th, 2009Hi Sarah, Thanks for your message.
I’m not sure why the popup window should appear multiple times. The most common reason for this happening is because the page you’re showing within the popup window is a page from a blog where you also have OptinPop installed. Try setting your popup windows so they don’t appear every time a page is loaded. Try having them appear 1 time a day. This should help to prevent this if you’re showing a page from your blog within your popup window (I don’t recommend doing this, it’s much better to show an optin page instead).
OptinPop is fully compatible with version the newest version which right now is 2.8.4.
I hope this helps.
