Don’t Buy Leads

By Brian Terry

If you’re just getting started online, buying leads can be very tempting. Don’t get lured, though, into the seemingly easy strategy of buying leads.

While this can work to a certain point, it is not going to give you the responsive list that you want.  When you buy leads, the people who you get on your list have likely never heard of you and most of them probably don’t want to hear from you.

On the other hand, when you build your own list from scratch, you’re talking to people who are warmed up to you already and who are a lot more likely to buy.

Buying leads, for the most part, is a waste of money.

Agree completely, did it once, most bounced back as undelivered. Learnt my lesson the hard way – loss of money, complete waste of time and money.

    Hi Brian,
You are 100% right on don’t buy traffic or leads. When I first started with the first one to teach me the business, he set me up with a company who could sell me leads. When it started out it was not real expensive, but it went up each week. The number of those that I paid for was about 1000 to 1 hits. It was bad and it got worse. I learned the hard way.

I do appreciate the way you teach. I wish I knew you when I first started. I know that you will reccommend the less expensive way and the one that keeps on growing. Thanks for everything you do to help me and others make it.

Hi John, thanks for your comment on this. I’m sorry to hear of the problem you had but unfortunately it’s all too common. When I first started out I remember buying a list of 10,000 unconfirmed, single optin email addresses thinking it was the best way to go. Today if you’re reported to your ISP by only a few of those people you emailed there’s a good chance you could wake up one morning to find you have no more Internet connection.

What I didn’t mention in my post was that the only time to ever consider buying leads is when you’re already an accomplished and experienced email marketer. When you have the experience and expertise you’ll know exactly what kind of lists to buy and how to build a relationship with them. Until then I recommend staying well away from buying any kind of lists from anyone.
